‘I’m thinking about a process of being consumed and swallowed and broken down and excreted’ - Stephanie Beroes, Recital Victor & Hester presents Dreams of Machines, a series of sort-of commissions; audio, text, screening, performance, and research at Transmission, Glasgow. Presenting the domestic space as a potentially potent social space, the work draws questions around a feminist reading of privacy and companionship, collaborations, domestic spheres, labour, interiorities, the unnameable, the unsaid. The work explores tensions between language, labour, architectural space and the bodies that move/work within and between these frameworks. The exhibition is a point within a research project by MFA graduates Amelia Bywater and Emma Fitts (V&H) who will use the Transmission Resource Room throughout April to make a publication. This will be launched in May. 18 April – 14 June 2015Opening Friday 17 April 2015, 6–8pm
Aideen Doran (MFA 2012) will lead an investigative, creative research project interrogating the idea of the city as a space for artistic, economic and ideological production. It responds specifically to the shifting fabric of the city of Birmingham, where Grand Union is based, critiquing its contemporary urban culture of regeneration through research into the archival traces of the city’s urban past, and its past visions of the future city.
