MFA AUCTION 3rd DECEMBER 2011

Students of The Glasgow School of Art MFA programme are delighted to announce that this year’s auction will include works by Turner Prize nominees and winners such as Fiona Banner and Jim Lambie in addition to many other internationally renowned artists including Elizabeth Peyton Jonathan Monk and Ryan Gander.

This year the auction will be held at The Briggait, 141 Bridgegate. Glasgow G1 5HZ.

Saturday 3^rd December, 2011­
6-8pm Silent auction.
8.30pm Live auction.

The annual MFA auction is produced by second year Master’s students to raise funds for the MFA international exhibition. The auction remains an essential date in the diary of both established and developing art collectors, offering the opportunity to purchase work by internationally recognised contemporary artists and invest in works by artists who will become the stars of the future. With reserves on the works in the Silent Auction at £25, there is something for all budgets and tastes.

Staged in the stunning Briggait space, the evening consists of two parts: a Silent Auction and a Live Auction. The Silent Auction allows bidders to view an exhibition of over fifty works in a variety of media produced by MFA students and other emerging artists. Bids may be placed on these works during a two-hour period.

Saving the best for last, the Live Auction is the main event of the evening. From 8:30pm onwards, Campbell Armour, Director of Edinburgh auction house Lyon and Turnbull hosts a traditional auction. Here you can bid on works by some of the best established and emerging contemporary artists Scotland has produced, including Claire Barclay, Alan Michael, Craig Mulholland, Nicolas Party, Toby Paterson, Corin Sworn, Alex Pollard, Michael Wilkinson. Alongside these will be artists from further afield including Chris Evans, Grier Edmundson, Phoebe Unwin, Brian Griffiths and more.

Heather and Ivan Morison will outline their dream workshop which Neal Beggs will work in for seven days using the materials and resources available to produce artworks which Nick Evans will then display in a final exhibition. The exhibition spaces at Market Gallery, two nearly identical glazed galleries side by side, allows the viewer to easily compare the production space or workshop with the exhibition space or gallery. Through out the three weeks the viewer will observe the transformation of materials in to artworks and artworks into an exhibition.

The Québec Triennial 2011. The Work Ahead of Us⎯one of the most important and highly anticipated art events of the season⎯will be presented at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal from October 7, 2011 to January 3, 2012. For this second edition of the Triennial, the museum has put together a show on an unprecedented scale that will fill all eight of its exhibition galleries and spill over into its indoor public spaces, as well as Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles and the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme at Place des Arts. The exhibition will feature works by more than fifty artists and collectives, a majority of them young, who are contributing to a renewed Québec art. A series of live performances and Friday Nocturnes will round out this edition of the Triennial.
