The Auction Overview.
Over
the past eight years the MFA students have hosted a charity auction in Glasgow,
establishing it as one of the most recognised and anticipated dates in the
city’s artistic calendar. Each year sees a host of established and emerging
artists kindly donate work to the auction. This year however, the auction will
be like no other and will incorporate the annual MFA auction with a one-off
fundraiser for the GSA Students’ Association (GSASA), celebrating the return of
The Art School to their original Garnet Hill premises and to the Glasgow
institution that is “The Vic.” The money raised will be divided between the
Students' Association and the MFA to aid GSA students in a variety of
activities.
The GSA Students' Association (also known as the 'Vic' or
'The Art School') has played an important role in the development and support
of underground, left field art, design and music Glasgow wide. Many of
Scotland's best known bands, producers, DJs and contemporary artists have their
roots in 'The Art School', and the venue has developed an international
reputation in its own right over the last 30 years. As of June The Students'
Association was successfully granted charitable status (no.SC044061),
cementing it as a not for profit organisation. The Association offers a host of free to attend events, including film
screenings, artist talks, gallery talks and live performances. More specifically the money raised will be used to
support the exhibition spaces in the Vic which provide a vital opportunity for
the students be able to develop, show and discuss work in a supportive and
professional context. Additionally amongst lots of other things the auction
will support the Student Association hardship funding, which has been a
lifeline for many students in financial difficulties over the years.
“With
a new building, a new approach and a new set of refreshed ambitions I really
want this event to pull together the creative community of Glasgow and beyond
with the aim of supporting the GSA Students Association. The whole purpose of
us being here is to be the supportive, leftfield cultural hub for young aspiring
artists, designers and performers.”
Sam
De Santis – President of the Glasgow School of Art Students’ Association.
MFA
students will employ the funds to instigate a series of post-degree show
exhibitions and events. Last year saw students create The Glasgow Masters Series 2013, which played host to a wide
variety of activities, from international exchanges to ambitious group shows in
Glasgow in which MFA graduates exhibited alongside a variety of other emerging
and established artists. All projects served as invaluable professional
experiences for this group of young artists. Further details of the Glasgow Masters Series 2013 can be found

2014
Edinburgh
College of Art, Sculpture Court
7pm - 11pm
BYOB, or Bring Your Own Beamer, is a
one-night exhibition inviting different artists from around the country to
transform Edinburgh College of Art’s Sculpture Court into a dynamic and
enveloping multi-sensory spectacle of moving image, digital art, performance
art, sound art and music. BYOB is a commentary on the modern world which often
generates overwhelming situations in which one is surrounded by a
multiplicity of undulating, fluctuating, pulsating, digitised visuals
and information.
The exhibition format has been enacted by Rafaël Rozendaal and
has been created worldwide since 2010.

Scott Rogers: Negative Miracle
Glasgow Sculpture Studios
would like to invite you to join us for the preview of Negative Miracle the solo exhibition of newly commissioned work by
Scott Rogers, The Gordon Foundation Graduate Fellow 2012-13.

Scott Rogers: Negative Miracle
25 January – 01 March 2014
Gallery open 11am - 5pm Wednesday - Saturday or by appointment
Born out of his one year Graduate Fellowship at Glasgow Sculpture Studios from November 2012 until November 2013. Negative Miracle is Rogers' first major solo exhibition since graduating from the MFA at Glasgow School of Art in June 2012 and his first solo presentation in Scotland.
Consisting of new works in video, sound, sculpture, and drawing, Scott Rogers’ exhibition continues his interest in the tensions between ideals and their actualization. In Negative Miracle Rogers conceives this relationship as a site of decay. Rogers’ sculptural work for the exhibition involves numerous experiments with surface and artifice. Many of the objects display a patina, the marks and indexes of deterioration serving as an ambiguous cipher that mixes real labour with its representation.
The exhibition will conclude with a new performance and the launch of a publication, both by the artist. Titled Goosebumps the publication includes a newly commissioned fictional text by science-fiction author Mark von Schlegell.
Scott Rogers is a Canadian artist based in Glasgow. He graduated from the MFA from the Glasgow School of Art in 2012 which included an academic exchange at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Selected solo exhibitions include Oasen (collaboration with Sarah Rose), Artspace, Auckland, NZ (2013), Occasional Fix (collaboration with Sarah Rose), Dog Park, Christchurch, NZ (2013), Meanders Into Nonesuch Place ONO Gallery, Oslo, Wireframe American University, Beirut (2011), Area Studies PM Galerie, Berlin, Wireframe Khyber ICA, Halifax, CA. Selected group exhibitions include Uncommon Ground University of Moncton Art Gallery (2012), Field Trip Project multiple venues throughout Japan (2012 – 2013) and Light Structures, Falsefront, Portland, US, 2012.
Glasgow Sculpture Studios is a membership organisation that receives revenue funding from Creative Scotland and Glasgow Life.
The Graduate Fellowship is generously supported by The Gordon Foundation and David Dale Gallery.
